Well it seems the Auto Union wore me out, and I found other things to do for the last few months. But a fellow on a FaceBook group dedicated to modeling is running a group build to commemorate the centenary of the 24 Heures du Mans, first run in 1923. Builds, of anything that ran at Le Mans, need to be finished by the flag drop at 16h00 in Le Mans, 10h00 here in Eastern Canada.
So I dug out the kit of the 1957 Maserati 450 S by Profil 24. Fangio and Behra drove this to the win at Sebring that year; but I decided to build it in its Le Mans form where Behra and Simon DNF'd. Recall this was the year D-Types took 5 of the top 6 spots, with a sole Ferrari 315S in 5th; but the 450 S (neither of which finished) was certainly right up there in the sexiness sweepstakes.
The kit is the usual resin type, with some pinholes and other flaws to be fixed; but the photoetched wheels are superb as always.
The engine is progressing while putty sets on the body.
Stay tuned, maybe the mojo is back. Gotta love the typical Italian 4-cam, twin-plug V8.
